CASE STUDY
HARLUND INDUSTRIES
SITE DETAILS
Something Special Deli Foods is an Alberta-based food processor known throughout North America for its dips, spreads, and marinades. Its Gourmet Original Antipasto is a customer favorite and a signature product.
CHALLENGES
The company’s onsite labeling process was hindered by old and unreliable label applicators. These issues resulted in recurring downtime, time-consuming re-labeling, and unnecessary operational costs. Seeking a more dependable labeling solution, Something Special turned to Harlund Industries and their Nita label applicators.
SOLUTION
Harlund Industries worked closely with Something Special and Nita, exploring various options and conducting tests to ensure the solution would maintain their classic label design. Initially, an all-in-one label applicator was considered, but the machine was too long for the production space. As a result, they opted for two machines—one handling five products and the other for the remaining two.
RESULTS
The installation of the Nita XP-200T with prism wrap brought immediate benefits, including:
- Longer run times due to the high-capacity label reel.
- Minimal rework thanks to accurate label placement.
- An intuitive touchscreen HMI that allowed simple
- recipe selection using actual product photos, ensuring
- the correct label was applied to the correct product.
- Barcode scan recipe selection to further guarantee
- accurate labeling.
- On-screen alerts for routine maintenance, along with on-screen how-to videos.
- Simple and quick recipe changeovers
Since the installation, Something Special has been so pleased with the results that its team decided to replace its second aging labeler with another Nita machine, delivering the same benefits across all product lines.
